Transport network construction speeds up
New progress made on Guangzhou-Foshan Loop Line
On June 30, as the cutterheads of two shield machines rotated slowly, the twin shield machines at Shishan No.1 and No.2 Shield Shafts of the West Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line Project were launched simultaneously, marking the official start of shield construction for the Foshan West Station-Guangzhou North Station section of the Pearl River Delta Intercity Rail Transit Guangzhou-Foshan Loop Line (hereinafter referred to as the West Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line). The project broke ground last September with a 5-year construction period and is expected to be completed in 2027.

The Guangfo West Ring Project is located in northwestern Guangzhou and northeastern Foshan, serving as a key component of the Pearl River Delta intercity rail network. It functions as an urban express line connecting Guangzhou's and Foshan's central districts, Foshan's Shishan sub-center, Huadu urban area, and other regions, playing a vital geographical role in linking urban clusters and bridging the northwest region within the rail network.
The line spans approximately 47 kilometers, starting from Foshan West Station and passing through Shishan Town and Lishui Town in Nanhai District of Foshan City, Tanbu Town and Xiuquan Subdistrict in Huadu District of Guangzhou City, as well as Jianggao Town in Baiyun District, before terminating at Guangzhou North Station. Seven new stations have been constructed along the entire route: Shishan East, Dalan, Guanyao South, Hegui, Tanbu, Huadu Port, and Shenshan North.
The Guangfo West Ring Line is a key component of the Guangfo Ring Line, serving as a high-speed intercity rail link that connects Foshan with Baiyun Airport and the Guangzhou Airport Economic Zone.

"We have a total of four shield machines lowered into the shaft. After launching two of them today, we expect to launch the other two shield machines between late July and early August. The project started construction last September with a five-year construction period and is scheduled to be completed in 2027," introduced He Ting, Party Secretary and General Manager of the Railway Investment Company of Guangzhou Metro Group.
Currently, the northern section of the Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line (from Baiyun Airport North Station to Guangzhou North Station) opened to traffic in November 2020; the southern section (from Foshan West Station to Guangzhou South Station) is undergoing static testing; the eastern section (from Guangzhou South Station to Baiyun Airport North Station) is expected to be completed by the end of this year; and the western section (from Foshan West Station to Guangzhou North Station) has already commenced construction.
